The Game of the Goose, sometimes known as the Royal Game of Goose, is the earliest commercially produced board game – recorded in Italy as early as the end of the 15th Century. Over hundreds of years, it has appeared in a myriad variations of rules and illustrative designs. Many of the boards reflect politics or social situations of the time and some are incredibly beautiful and creative. The basic form of the rules has remained remarkably consistent over the years.
Before going on a winter break, the last week of the European Section ( mathematics ) was dedicated to … PLAYING A BOARD GAME !
However, before enjoying playing the game, the pupils had to overcome a couple of issues:
1/ They were only given the Board game with the description of the animals, and no detailed rules.
2/ Most of them did not have any dice to play with.
And yet … they managed to set up some rules and to play !!! How would you play this game ? What kind of rules would you set ? Which animal would you bet on ?
… To be continued …
